Alvar Aalto Cabinet 250 from Artek

A lockable cabinet that’s simple in form, celebratory in function.

From Finnish designer Alvar Aalto comes this sleek wooden cabinet. Designed in 1937, the Cabinet 250 is often referred to as the “cocktail cabinet”—but you can also use it to store everything from dishes to books. This three-shelf cabinet features Aalto’s famous curved L-legs which, according to archival documents, are attached to this design thanks to Alvar’s partner, Aino Aalto. She was the first to attach a cabinet body to the L-leg design. The body of the Cabinet 250 is made from birch veneer, while the legs are solid birch. The entire cabinet has a honey stain. Includes a key to lock the cabinet. Crafted in Finland and Germany, the Cabinet 250 measures 39.5h x 37.4w x 15.75”d. Both Alvar Aalto and the cabinet’s manufacturer, Artek, have work in MoMA’s collection.
